Geological surveys – what is included?
Geological surveys are a compilation of various studies including:
- groundwater levels
- topography and soil composition
- seismic hazards and other safety factors
Conducting geological surveys also includes long term assessment. Based on the results of the work, a report is drawn up which identifies features of the soil on site, and predicts the service life of the facility’s construction. The report also includes a recommendation for the foundation type.
When are they needed?
- During the construction of any industrial facility, a report on geological surveys will be required by designers and during a scheduled inspection
- When building a private house , geological surveys will help to save during the design of the foundation ( more details about geology for individual housing construction )
Stages of work:
- Site preparation
well drilling, preparation of pits - Soil study
sampling, shear tests, probe studies - Soil preparation
Examining indicators
filling and injection into wells and pits, pumping out, field tests - Observations
groundwater level changes, regime tests, monitoring - Laboratory tests
chemical analysis of soils and groundwater, the study of physical and mechanical indicators - Final analysis
soil study, study of the structure of the site and features
